Borderers,

On this day in 1689 during a period of religious and political strife in Scotland, David Leslie the 3rd Earl of Leven was ordered by the Scottish Convention of Estates (Scottish Government) to raise a Regiment of foot to defend the City of Edinburgh. Within four hours 780 men had been recruited by “beat of drum” and assembled at the ruins of the Abbey Church at Holyrood. The Regiment would be known as Levens’ Regiment, The Edinburgh Regiment and ultimately;

The King’s Own Scottish Borderers.

This Regiment would remain loyal to Crown and Country from that day until its forced merger in 2006, it would embody the fighting spirit and courage of Lowland Scots during 317 years of service where it was never amalgamated.

Once a Borderer always a Borderer
