SEVICE OF COMMEMORATION FOR THE LATE CAPTAIN ALICK YOUNG HERRIES KOSB, THE CANONGATE KIRK EDINBURGH
On the 24th of July Borderers commemorated the 100th anniversary of the death on the Somme of Alick Herries, who died on the 23rd of July 1916. The photograph is taken by the plaque dedicated to his memory in the Kirkyard of the Canongate. In the photo are from left to right Mrs Will Herries, Rev Neil Gardner, Will Herries (great nephew) Angus Loudon, Allan Alstead, Colin Hogg and Cynthia Hogg.
Alick Herries was a member of the 2nd Battalion, he was killed at High Wood on 23 July 1916, (pictured below with his father and grandfather). Ian Gibbs is his great nephew. He visited Alick’s grave at Mametz on Saturday 23rd July, with his son.
