The very successful Annual General Meeting of the KOSB Association was held in the Mess prior to the parade with a much increased attendance over previous years and was presided over by our KOSB Association President, Colonel Angus Loudon MBE, in fact it was standing room only. This was our President’s first such meeting and welcomed the opportunity to meet members from the majority of branches from across the Borders.

“Nancy’s Dancers” provided an energetic, entertaining and colourful display of Highland dancing for the many hundreds of spectators and visitors who managed to find a seat around the parade ground. The dancers and music have now become a permanent highlight performing before the official forming up procedure begins.

Two hundred and eighty six personnel were on parade, an increase on the previous year’s numbers and were marshalled onto the parade square by the ever professional and watchful Major Ken Fraser. We were fortunate to have a large contingent of musicians this year; consisting of The Berwick British Legion Pipe Band, a large number of personnel from the ever popular Inter Scaldis Pipe Band from the Netherlands and the Pipes and Drums from 1 SCOTS who had just returned from a military tattoo in Berne, Switzerland. So quickly did they arrive for the celebrations that their ceremonial uniforms were left behind in Switzerland and would not meet up with them until some days after their
appearance at Berwick!

The High Sherriff of Northumberland, Lucy Carroll and Colonel Angus Loudon presented traditional red roses to those on parade, meticulously assisted by members of the Berwick Detachment of the Army Cadet Force under the command of 2nd Lt Debra Jerdan.

The parade marched out of the newly refurbished Barracks gates along its customary route and past the Berwick Town Hall where Lucy Carroll, Colonel Angus Loudon and Ivor Dixon, the Deputy Mayor of Berwick had assembled on the Guild Hall steps to take the salute. The parade contingent continued back towards the Barracks entrance and fell out in front of the welcoming sight of the marquee for a very substantial buffet provided by David Scott and a well-deserved beer. We are again indebted to the Rotary Club of Berwick for providing all the bar facilities throughout what was an extremely busy Minden Day.

Once again, a very successful all ranks social function was held on the Saturday evening in the Berwick Rugby Club in nearby Scremerston and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who were instrumental in organising this popular event.
